Chairman's update
20 Mar 2022 by Andrew Burrows
As the end of the season is upon us, it’s with regret that I have to let you know that I will be stepping down from my role as chairman / coach within the club at the end of March. This decision has not been reached easily but is necessary due to increasing pressures and commitments outside of basketball. During the off season, the coaches / committee will be looking to find someone who would like to take up the Chairman role moving forwards – you don’t need to be a basketball expert, I was just a dad bringing his son to basketball – you just need to want to help.
I’ve been Chairman for the last 3.5 years and supported coaching a team for this last season – there have been many highlights throughout this time. We’ve successfully navigated through the pandemic and returned to play safely, in many cases setting the standard for other clubs in the area as well as our own. We’ve secured sponsors and Sport England funding, developed both U12’s boys and our Girls teams seeing them grow from strength to strength. There have been many highlights through U14, U16 and U18 games and it’s been fantastic to see all develop and grow as basketball players. Some of our older players have also benefitted from playing up and competing with our mens senior team.
None of this is possible without the support of coaches and volunteers who are interested in one thing – providing the opportunity for our kids to learn and play the sport they love. I’d like to thank them for all that they have done and continue to do. The club has some great foundations and benefits from your continued support. It’s been a privilege to have had the opportunity to be involved and support coaching across a number of the age groups.
